For Tessanne

[The] Voice Capsule

They couldn't see you coming
and it was even harder to
hear the dulcet tones drenched in
rock-reggae chords cause
radio enforced
Silence
wouldnt take it on board
So those who cared had to
take it abroad
Launch out beyond even
the rarified airwaves and into
the studio pitch for US Prime Time
no sordid housewives
but drama nonetheless
riveting enough to keep at least 2
nations glued to their tubes
week after week
into this hardly neutral cosmos a
silver-winged supernova slowly
inexorably gave her aural light
to a world still bereaved and hungry
for good words
Her mission: control
her resolve to boldly
go where none before have gone
and now all satellites trail
in her close-cropped wake
some ecstatic; others simply
static
for many the result was automatic
inevitable
but still otherworldly
a gleaming sparkling new
Queendom
a musical reign enhancing
freedom to appreciate all the sounds
that have been weaved across the ages
into our glorious Afro-Chinese-Jamaican

"Likkle" for "Little": Soulster Tanice Morrison recalls Stevie Wonder's "Christmas Tree"

Its a staple (though somewhat forgotten on today's airwaves) of pop-soul Christmas songs: Stevie Wonder's allegorical "One Little Christmas Tree" which uses the image of a solitary tree serving as a beacon to a strife-torn world was an instant hit on its release in 1967, at the height of the Vietnam War and other world crises.

Now a generation later, Jamaican reggae-soul artist Tanice Morrison has given Wonder's Christmas gem the "yard-style" treatment. One Likkle Christmas' Tree' features production by Demar 'Keysie Gayle and the singer's gently endearing style transposing the lyrics.

the inflections may be Jamaican but the spirit of the message is Morrison, says universal

"One Little Christmas Tree' has always been a favorite of mine ever since and love the message of unity among men."

The single is available from the artist, at http://www.tanicemorrison.net/ as well as atthe customary digital music outlets (iTunes, etc)

STARTING FROM IN THE EARLY 80’S WHEN SHE WAS JUST A LITTLE GIRL GOING TO THE STUDIO WITH HER MOTHER, STUDIO ONE RECORDING ARTISTE, KETURAHDUFFUS. HER MOTHER HAS ALWAYS BEEN HER STRONGEST SUPPORTER AND THE LITTLE GIRL INSIDE TANICE HAS NEVER FORGOTTEN THE MANY CHALLENGES SHE FACE GROWING UP AND ALWAYS DOES HER BEST TO MAKE HER MOTHER PROUD.

BEING SURROUNDED BY A LOT OF MUSIC, TANICE TOOK HER SINGING QUITE SERIOUSLY. SHE ENTERED SEVERAL COMPETITIONS INCLUDING THE RED LABEL WINE SONG COMPETITION (1997), WHERE SHE ADVANCED TO THE FINALS AS THE SOLE FEMALE CONTESTANT BUT NEVER WON. BUT THAT ONLY SERVED TO STRENGTHEN THE YOUNG SINGER.

STILL PLAYING A VITAL ROLE IN THE PERFORMING SIDE OF THE BUSINESS AS ONE OF THE PROFESSIONAL CABARET ACTS ON THE COAST, TANICE HAS PERFORMED AT MAJOR EVENTS INCLUDING STUDIO ONE’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW WITH THE MARLEY BROTHERS, CAPELTON, MARCIA GRIFFITHS, KEN BOOTHE AND OTHER TOP LOCAL ACTS, IN 2004. IN NOVEMBER2005, SHE WAS ONE OF THE OPENING ACTS FOR THE “KENNY ROGERS IN CONCERT”, HELD AT KING’S HOUSE. ANOTHER MAJOR CONCERT WAS THE 2011 STAGING POWERFUL MEN AND WOMEN IN CONCERT.

IN 2010, SHE RELEASED AN ALBUM, NO LIMITATIONS,

A Week of Musical Celebration in Kingston

The month of December, which in recent years, had lost some of its lustre as the premium period for live musical/arts events, regains some of that this year with the inaugural
Kingston Music Week, conceived and promoted by the RJR Group (see http://rjrgroup.com/kgnmusicwk/ for full schedule) .

Simply, the event is really a series of events, with live music at the heart. Many of these will see collaboration with leading live event promoters, including Keesing Live, the monthly Saturday night series gathering great steam, as well as Bleu Essence, which converts the car park in front of its Kings Plaza location into an open-air music arena most Tuesdays. The Keesing Live event will actually play out on a Friday for KMW, as in this Friday December 6, and will featurwe the likes of Rootz Underground, Skygrass and Bryan Art eith the File 13 Band.

Its the Essence that will take the spotlight come December 3, when Shades of Gray will unfold. The event is  so named because the artistes on the bill, or many of them, are part of the growing Graypatch Music roster, including VC, Nickiesha Barnes, Alkamis, Imar, Sharee and Royale, as confirmed.

Fans still hungry for music (and victuals) can head over to Usain Bolt's Tracks & Records to catch Assassin, aka Agent Sasco, in concert as the Behind The Screens series returns
